In case this didn't make it to the list earlier:
Over the weekend my entire collection of The The 12" singles and albums
was damaged in a severe weather related basement flood. This included
some very rare pieces in exceptional condition. I'm still depressed about
it and I doubt I'll ever be able to rebuild the collection. *sigh*

This is all old, three weeks to be exact, ignore the irrelevant...
1) I had a cool score this weekend that I was hoping I could get some
more info about here on the list:
I bought the Infected Songbook, which contains virtually all of everything
the The did up to and including Infected, including: lyrics, sheet music,
extra notes written by Matt, articles, pictures, and just plain cool the
The stuff. Only paid nothing for it, got it for free at a used bookstore.
Can anyone tell me if there exists more recent song books, specifically
for Mind Bomb?
2) I emailed someone last week regarding the Second Disc for the Special
Edition Slow Emotion Reply Single including "scenes from Arctic Twilight",
I'm looking to either buy it or trade for it, but I lost the email I
should've sent, so, someone out there please help me screw my head back on
straight.
Thanks,

Please remove me from the - the The group.
I'm afraid that I don't get the time to keep up with it all.
I live in the London area and am always scanning the NME / Q / MOJO for any
information on bands such as the The. Sadly nothing to date. However, for
those of you who maybe interested, Johnny Marr has recently produced the
latest Marion LP, in which he plays guitar on many of the tracks (so I
hear).
Should I hear any Johnson news, you will be the first to know...

For a while now (it's an on again, off again kind of thing), I've been
trying to put together a Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) for the The. I
have the current FAQ at http://www.ingsoc.com/thethe/faq/infect.html .
I've been adding questions as I think of them, but it'd be much more
expediant if others would think of
questions that someone new to the The would ask. I'd appreciate any help
you can give me in that regard. Thanks.

Hello, fellow people of taste!
Only recently got connected to the internet so was pleased to come across the
Infected mailing list thingy - I didn't realise there were so many the The
fans out there (and so organised, too).
>From what I've received so far, most mailings seem to be from
America.Chart-wise, in England, Matt & the crew only have low-key success (one
single per album does well, there rest fade away - no justice!) but every time
I buy an album, I play it to friends and 9 times out of 10, win them over. I
suppose it's just not easy to listen to, daytime-radio stuff. It can do things
like make you think for a start as opposed to just entertain and people have
to be in the right mood for that.
I remember reading the sleeve notes for Mind Bomb when it first came it where
Matt suggested (insisted) that the album be played in the dark, alone and very
loud and that is when it hits you hardest. Once it has, you can listen to it
any time of day, in any mood but I think it had to become significant first.
Anyway, I digress. I have followed the The since Heartland (from Infected) was
out as a single and devoured everything since but due to having lived in a
couple of towns where good record shops were thin on the ground, I have missed
most singles and only ended up with the albums. Now, I know that some b-sides
have been album tracks or live versions of previous songs (which are nice to
have, but I get a much bigger buzz from new material, good or bad) so can
anyone point me in the direction of a detailed discography so I can try and
track down any tracks I haven't got. Also, if you could recommend any good
mail-order companies that I could try, I would be verrrry grateful.
I'm on the lookout every time I visit a record shop I've never been in before,
so I've picked up the odd cd-single (Dogs Of Lust x 2 being a recent
purchase), but I'd hate to miss out on something that's out there and I
haven't heard.
A recent suprise to me was the track on Stallones' Judge Dredd soundtrack that
I'd not heard - I bought it in a sale convinced it must be a mis-titled album
track I already had but it was brand new (to me), previously unreleased -
fantastic when you think you've got all the material and you're getting
impatient between albums (the gaps are too big!).
Anyway, that's my first waffling contribution over with,
Hope to hear from you,
Mark

Just had to throw in a quick comment about the popularity of theThe from my
experience. I grew up in Colorado in the early to late 80s and, in my
world, the The were, and presumably still are, hugely popular. I remember
the first time they played Denver (which I had to miss the show) it was all
the radio stations (KTCL anyway) could talk about ... people said it was one
of the best shows ever to hit Denver.
Then I moved to Oregon and was fortunate enough to see them live in '93.
The place was absolutely packed with standing room only. My point is, I
thought the The is one of the most popular 'non-mainstream rock' bands there
is. Just my $.02 worth.

I was listening to Hanky Panky last night and wondered when Matt last
produced one of his own songs, the answer...1992.
I'm afraid I dont know how old Matt is these days, probably about 36,
but I am beginning to think that he has lost the ability to write
songs!
Unless Matt comes up with some new material soon i'm going to have to
follow other bands like 'The Spice Girls' and 'Boyzone' :-)

I too missed that show in Denver in '81 or 82 I believe and I still kick

years!! The moral?- don't ever miss a the The show you never know how long

I caught the The twice in one year in '93 (Dallas). First time was at Fair
Park (outdoors). The Cranberries opened. Second time was at Reunion Arena
opening for Depeche Mode. Both shows were great, best I'd ever seen.
Depeche was feeling threatened by the point in the tour I saw them, cutting
the The's set from 90 to 45 minutes. Packed house for an opening band!
Just thought I'd share... Matt, tour again soon!

I was in a bar in East Lansing this past Thursday called Rick's American Music
