Hi everyone!
As I am a new subscriber to this list I just wanted to introduce myself!
As I was(And still are!) reading your "digest" from -95 and up,a few things
seemed apropriate:
I heard the The for the first time around 1987..That Infected-thing!..It changed
my "world" for ever...Not that day or year, but later..Thats the way it is with
infections...Time did it's thing and one day I saw the billing for the The in
Copenhagen,Denmark(Its Scandinavia,on top of Europe,if you are in doubt!),
and dicided to get a couple of tickets for me & the girlfriend of those days..
I was BLOWN away!!!!(The concert could be elaborated on,if anyone cares :-))
Since that night I've been a true fan of this great artist.
As so many before me(Reading the digests!) I think that we all have "two"
albums that we're espescially found of:"The best and the personal"....
In my weary little mind "Mind Bomb" has the best lyrics & music, but
"Infected" just seemed "right" for me at the time. It holds the memories
of "moving frontiers" that I did at that time.HE made it very, very personal, and helped me "finding" a soulmate out there in the great oblivion...
This evening I'm playing "Dusk"...Thanks to some of the mails on this
list....Why did't I listen carefully years ago??
anyway...Thanks for the (Those!) reminder!
Pleased to meet you all !!!!
Peter
P.s.: Pardon my spelling...! Try this in danish!!!
a co-spirit in this world

For those who have read my ramblings over the last two or so years, I'm
still here. I contributed more last year, my contributions being
entertaining for some, moving for others, irrelevant for a few - perhaps
just like this one.
I have recently purchased a double CD of Robert Johnson. Hallelujah! He is
great. My nights alone are spent in a dark house with Johnson singing to
the darkness and me, filling every inch of the house, flying out the open
windows toward the hungry stars. This has made my life richer for sure. I
can understand why MJ would do his own tribute to the man, and I reckon
that MJ has borrowed (for want of a better word) certain vocal tricks and
styles from him as well.
I'm also starting to listen to The Beatles, specifically the less
McCartney-ish of the songs. The more mature lyrics on some of those songs
shatters the pop Beatles image that I had in my mind. Time to make my own
discoveries, make my own experiences.....
Which brings me to the exciting point of this email - that I am moving from
this land of OZ to everybody's favourite, the US of A - to California in
fact. I wanna have the pleasure of meeting some of you infected
individuals. I want recommendations as to great places to spend New Years
Eve. I wanna white Christmas. I'm headin' to the land of large cars and
rednecks without plans, without a job, without money. Hey, maybe if I sell
my soul .....
Smile

Hi,
Here is the latest update. The auction ends December 27th. On the day
before I will post a final update. Everyone on that list will be
eligable for a "bid-off". That way, no one can be outbid at the last
minute without a chance to get the item. I wish everyone would run
auctions this way. Too often I had been the highest bidder the whole
way through an auction just to have someone outbid me by a dollar at the
last minute. Anyway, here is the list...
ITEM 1: Burning Blue Soul UK LP (CAD 113)
ITEM 2: The Beat(en) Generation UK BOX 12" w/ Poster, Postcards,

1) Put the words "Sale order" in the subject header
2) List ALL information pertaining to the items you want (artist, title,
country of origin, format, description & price.
3) Include ALL other ordering information as requested in our ordering
instructions
4) ALL sale purchases must be made via the net. No phone, fax or instore
sales are permitted. Don't even ask, ok?
5) If any of the above information is ignored, your order will be as well!
Sorry! We're practically giving this stuff away, so make it easy on us,
ok?
[] INCLUDE ALL REQUIRED INFORMATION WITH YOUR ORDER....
To process your order we must know:
1) WHO & WHERE YOU ARE
-Your full name
-Your full address for shipping
2) WHAT YOU WANT
-Artist, title, country, format, description & price. It is best
for everyone if you can just copy straight from our listing to save time
3) HOW YOU WANT TO PAY FOR YOUR ORDER
-Credit card or money order. If paying by credit card, we need to
know when you place your order either if your information is already on
file or, if not, how you will be submitting this information. If your
information is not on file, you will need to submit an signature card for
use authorization. Please contact us for information on how to go about
submitting a signature card.
We cannot process any order that does not contain all the required
information listed above. Any orders received without all of the required
information will be put aside until we have time to contact you for the
full information. This could result in you missing out on the items you
wish to order.
[] USE PROPER HEADINGS....
In order to serve you better, we require that you include the following in
your subject headers
1) "ORDERS" & "AVAILABILITY REQUESTS"
-It is very important that you properly label your subject header
to assure prompt attention to your orders. Sometimes days can pass before
we find the time to even look at any other mail. Orders & availability
requests are the first e-mail we respond to.
2) "ORDER CHANGES"
-If you wish to make any additions or cancelations, please put the
words "order changes" in the subject header. It is recommended that you
list your changes first and then include your original order. We will
send a new invoice to you ASAP.
-It is essential that you mention the fact that you have an order
on hold when adding to that order, otherwise you may be billed for
shipping twice and the orders will ship at different times independently
of each other
3) "PROBLEMS"
-If you have a problem with an order, please put the word
"problem" in the subject header. These requests are dealt with promptly.
4) "SHIPPING VERIFICATION"
-If you wish for us to verify the shipping date of an order,
please allow two weeks from the time you paid for your order before
requesting this information
[] CHANGES WITH INVOICING.....
Due to the massive amounts of mail received, we regret that we can no
longer invoice credit card orders unless you clearly state at the time you
place your order that you require an invoice. All non credit card orders
will be placed on hold for payment once we invoice you and tell you how
much you need to send us.
All orders are pulled as soon as they are received and the orders
will ship once they have been processed. If you require an invoice or
verification from us that we have received your order, this will delay the
processing and shipping of that order. In many cases, an order shipped as
soon as it is processed will arrive before we have a chance to e-mail you
verification of receiving and processing that order.
[] RESPONDING TO VINYL INK MESSAGES...
Please quote our message somewhere in the body of your reply. We
receive many messages that make no sense when responded to out of context
& therefor it is impossible for us to properly respond.
[] ONLY PLACE YOUR ORDER ONCE....
If you think your order wasn't sent correctly the first time and you
feel the need to re-send the order, please state "I have reason to believe
that my first attempt to send this order was unsuccessful, thus I am
re-sending it. Please do not process this order twice" Failure to do
this
could result in you being double billed and double shipped your order. Any
charges incured in you returning such errors are your responsibility and a
restocking charge may also be added.

Hi -
Just a note to let everyone know that the the The Versus the World tour
program has been scanned and is now on-line.
Go to http://www.thethe.com and click on the tour book link near the top (or
go directly to http://www.thethe.com/VersusTheWorld/).
- -
All of the material from the tour guide is there, but a few of the pages
are on-line as scans of text, and I would like to convert all the text to
text to improve browsing performance... could anyone help me by
OCR-ing/typing-in what still exists as text? There are only a few pages,
maybe 4-5. I have the original TIFs, but the OCR software I tried (Cuneiform)
couldn't read even a single word, does anyone have Omni Page? If anyone can
help I'd certainly appreciate it.
Thanks to Dave Kung for the loan of the tour book (as well as for the loan of
several other even more prised the The artifacts).

Hello Everyone (for the last time),
This is it... the last update. All of the people on this list right now
are confirmed to be able to participate in the final bidding ONLY FOR
THE ITEMS THEY ARE NOW LISTED FOR. Anyone who wishes to beat these bids
between now and tomorrow, make a bid. I will then contact those
individuals and hold a "bid off". Each party can increase the others
bid until their is only one bidder remaining. If you are going away on
vacation, send me a ceiling bid and I will bid for you (only increasing
your bid enough to secure the item - you can trust me not to jack up the
bid to your ceiling). After a winner is declared, I will notify them
and we can work out postage and insurance.
Good luck,
Stan
PS - $5 minimum bids required for anything without a bid at this
point...

This is an excerpt from a review for two albums, called "Herd of
Instinct" and "Fields and Waves", by a band named O'Rang from Urb
magazine (which covers electronic music):
"O'Rang's debut alubum, "Herd of Instinct", was originally released
in Europe back in 1994 and has only recently been made available here
in the US. "...Fields and Waves" is their new disc and together, the
two recordings represent a rich cornucopia of wholly unique sounds.
Incorporating a global/trance offense with an ambient/dub defense,
O'Rang's ambitious studio style results in a heady, lush rhythm
collision that transports the suggestible listener through time and
space. "Herd of Instinct" moved O'Rang to the head of the class in
ethno-electronica with timely assistance from members of the
Waterboys, The The and Portishead."
Anyone know anything about this? This also brings up another
question--any other The The fans out there like techno?

Some members of O'rang are from the band Talk Talk. Talk Talk's later work is
fantastic, especially Colour of Spring and Spirit of Eden. I've been looking
for the O'rang albums for a while but haven't been succesful yet. I'm glad to
see a US release.

matt johnson plays guitar on two o'rang tracks. also the harmonica guy
from mind bomb plays on a few songs, giving the album a the the sort of
feel to it. it is very good, and i usually don't like that style of
music.
