Paul's post contained much information that I find thrilling. Is it
possible that _Gunsluts_ could be out by the end of the year? Two MJ
albums in 1995??!?? I can hope. I suppose there won't be any _Hanky
Panky_ tour then...

A Robert Johnson tribute? Matt must really like me to be doing such
things that I would love to hear :)

I am sorry to hear about Johnny Marr leaving, but I don't think it will
really have much effect on the sound. This is Matt's band after all.

The interviewer asked Matt if he was going to be touring the UK to
promote Hanky Panky and he answered "No"
When asked about touring with Gunsluts he said definitely...I got the
impression that Gunsluts will be out in 1995.

I'm showing my ignorance here, but what has Robert Johnson done?, is
he a song writer rather than a performer?

He did say that he had worked with Marr for five years and that the
last work he did with him was Mind Bomb which was five or six years
ago. He managed to produce Dusk without Marr so he certainly wont be
missed.

However I have a video at home called "From Dawn til Dusk" and it
shows Johnson and Marr touring the states to promote "Slow Emotion
Replay" which was from Dusk.

I don't know who did it originally, but Billy Bragg covered it on
his album _Don't Try This At Home_.

Robert Johnson was king of the delta blues. He was a performer in the
1930's (I'm guessing on the decade, maybe 20's). He's been covered by
everyone in rock who claims a blues influence. I'd assume his most
famous covered songs would be Eric Clapton's "Crossroads" and the Rolling
Stones' "Love in Vain". Just think of old, pure blues and that's what
Robert Johnson is all about. Everything he ever recorded is available on
a 2 CD set titled "The Complete Works of Robert Johnson": highly recommended.

Concerning "Burning Blue Soul" on vinyl...I know where you can get it, but
not how you can get it. It's a place in London. Expect to pay around
$30-40 american. What a funny picture of matt on the cover...
Also, someone asked a while back about the deleted single cover...of
...I think sweet bird of truth? Same story for it as above.
It seems to me that people on this list have either ALL of Matt's
stuff or a little. Could one of those people with a lot of
the stuff PLEASE make a GOOD tape of rarer stuff, send it to me,
and i'll make further copies for anyone wanting it?
Just seems like a good idea as people on other lists do the same.
Just need someone with the material TO DO IT!

hi there,
j wrote today that nothing is happening on the list.
i just want to say that i was afraid that i was off the list because
i haven`t received mail for 3 or 4 days. what`s happening ?
i mean the new album is out and it kicks ass and noone responds ?
all right then i do the fisrt step. i think that the new lp is brilliant.
every song is class A but the highlights are "honky tonkin`", "i`m a long
gone daddy" and "i saw the light". what do you think?
his cover versions seem to be as good as original material.
i`ve just read a short interview with Matt in Record Collector magazine about
the future of The The. he mentions "gunsluts" and the planned Robert Johnson
album and also in plans are cover albums from Zappa and The Beatles.
how about that?
waiting to hear from you all

Hmmm....I really hope he doesn't do this. I've never cared much for Zappa,
though I certainly respect him, and let's face it, everyone and their mother
has covered the Beatles.

I hope this "Gunsluts" album is released fairly soon. I'm itchin' for some

I've yet to get it. I've been laid up with bronchitis for the

However, I did get to hear the radio show last night, broadcast from
New York. Matt answered a lot of (stupid) questions, and played several tunes
with Eric live in the studio. He did an amazing acoustic version of
"Dogs of Lust."

Anybody else catch this?

I waited for the local college-town Music store to open. I paid about 11 bucks
for it. I though it was a decent deal. As for the album, it was pretty good.
Honky Tonkin' was killer. It ranks up there with their classics. The album's
no Soul Mining, but few (or no) albums are.

About cover albums. I love the original stuff as well, but I've

The The fans in Chicago might want to put this on their schedules for
this coming Monday night:

Monday Feb 13 9:00 pm-1:30 am
Record Release Party
The The "Hanky Panky"
Club 950, 950 West Wrightwood, Chicago
(Corner of Lincoln/Sheffield/Wrightwood)
No cover, 21+
Giveaways courtesy Sony
The The music all night (but probably not exclusively).

I don't know yet what the giveaways will be in total, I know I will have
some promo vinyl 12" of remixes of "Dogs of Lust", and probably cassette
promos for "Hanky Panky" and/or promo CD singles for "I Saw the Light".
Possibly full-length "Hanky Panky" CDs too, perhaps posters, postcards,
who knows what all, but you need to be there to get stuff.
The way it works is, you get a raffle ticket each time you buy a drink
(any drink, alcoholic or non-alcoholic). I call out numbers every so
often and give out stuff at random. Very simple. Also your chance to hear
"rare" stuff since I'm bringing my collection, just come up and request
it.

See you there! Email if you have any questions.

Subject: Hanky Panky review

>From the February 2, 1995 issue of the Boston Globe.
Review by Jim Sullivan

HANKY PANKY
THE THE
550 Music/Epic

There are some that will roll their eyes upon hearing that the The -
essentially Matt Johnson plus hired help - has recorded "Hanky Panky,"
an album of Hank Williams-identified songs. Like: What business does
an English sonsmith-auteur, a pensive guy who rode the angst/synth/
dance wave of the early '80s, have covering sad, bluesy songs sung by
America's country icon? Johnson's business is this: He relates to the
pain and heartbreak. This 11-track disc intertwines Johnson's dour
post-modern sensibilities with Williams' tuneful timelessness. It's a
spare-sounding album, with the The primarily employing harmonica,
guitar and organ leads. Often, there's a lot of brooding and resentment.
You shouldn't take "I Saw the Light"'s lyric - "Now I'm so happy/no
sorrow in sight/Praise the Lord/I saw the light" - at face value. You
should burrow into the sorrowful-angry mantra in "I'm a Long Gone
Daddy": "I'm a long gone daddy/I don't need you anyhow." On this disc,
as with many of the The's efforts, life is no cherry bowl. It's a
struggle that Johnson knows, as Williams did.

If any of you in Chicago had come to the release party last night at Club 950,

5 promo CD singles "I Saw the Light"
4 promo cassettes "Honky Tonkin'"
2 10" singles "I Saw the Light"
** 3 Limited Edition 2x10" full-length "Hanky Panky"
75 promo 12" "Dogs of Lust" (Spermicide/Germicide/Squirmicide)
20 3'x3' "Hanky Panky" posters
4 HUGE subway-size "Hanky Panky" posters
12 Sony release date posters
6 3'x5' "Hanky Panky" posters (with record review quotes)

Too bad if you didn't make it.
I, uh, considered giving away my copy of the "Controversial Subject" 7" but,

Yeah, it really sucks, too, especially since the stores usually have the
product two or three days before the release date (I work at a record store).
"Hanky Panky" has been sitting in our receiving room since Saturday. Talk

I noticed last night that the lyrics to "Perfect" are on the back of the 12".
I haven't checked our version for accuracy. Obviously, ours are close, but
when I get the chance I'll type in Matt's lyrics with his usual punctuation and
breaks and indentations. I think we had some mistakes.

PS For example, "Bodies queue for nothing."

and am opening it up as I type this.

I already like it.
It's only <34 minutes long, which explains the lesser cost.

More later; Honky Tonkin' is the first song and sounds good!

I had the same experience. First listen was in my car, and I kind of shrugged
and thought "OK, it's The The alright, but ho-hum". On second listen last
night, I like it much better. So, I guess I'd recommend to anyone initially
disappointed with it to give it a few more chances.

>good luck getting a better deal on it,

It was being sold at Newbury Comics (several stores in Massachusetts and
New Hampshire) yesterday for $10.88, including a free The The HANKY PANKY
T-shirt. So, I'm not too upset, even given the short length of the music.
But I eagerly await the release of GUNSLUTS. FWIW, King Crimson's VROOM
was also only about 35 minutes long, and that one was about $15. I hope this
isn't a trend.

BTW, I've been a subsciber to this list since the beginning, but this is my
first post. I've got quite a bit of stuff I can enter that I wrote in 1988,
describing the various The The singles released up to and including the release
of INFECTED. I've been very busy, but I'll start posting stuff when I get some
time free.

Wow! 34 minutes! That is bogus. Man, the place I saw it last night was
going to be selling it for 16.99.

I REFUSE to pay that much for 34 minutes. Really, I mean, I LOVE the
The, but I won't pay that. What is the best price that you have all seen
it sell for so far? I'll wait, if I have to, to pay a fair price.

Man, that is a bummer.

yep, 34 mins sounds right. i bought it today for 14.99, which is
pretty rip-offish price.

it has 11 songs on it. it sounds the The-ish enough (thick sound,

Well, I got it as a Valentines day gift. My girl payed 15 bucks too.
Total rip off for 33 minutes. I don't understand how a band can release
a compact disc with only 33 minutes and expect fans to remain as
faithful. I'm sorry if I ramble about this, but it is a serious pet
peeve of mine. I 1) refuse to buy a cardboard jeweled CD, and 2) will
almost never buy a disc that is less than 40 minutes. Shit, the CD can
hold over 77 minutes of music.

I'm already reverting back to "Soul Mining." No CD has ever held my
attention as much as that one. I go through phases. For the last few
days, I have been living, breathing, and dreaming "...well you didn't get
up this morning cause you didn't go to bed..."

Maybe Gun Sluts will be the The's redemption for me.

Great! There are some very bare, stripped versions of 'weary blues
from waitin' and "if you'll be a baby to me" that i like, and
the arrangements are on the whole very good. i'm not at all familiar
with hank williams, but the lyrics (which are included) are depressing!
that isn't by rule a good thing, but in general i'd rather something
depressed or introspective than sunshiney and carefree. especially from
The The.

I only paid 13 bucks for mine, compared to 15 bucks standard price for
CDs at the place I got it. So, it was correspondingly cheaper and was
more than fair to me. (This, once I get over the general overpricedness
of CDs -- given the average price of a CD at these stores, the The price
was a bargain)

I need to listen multiple times to allow the highlights to introduce
themselves to me, but that is FAR from a grim prospect :)

In case some of you glossed over my message about the Hanky Panky release
party, I thought I'd call attention to the following bit of info:

There is a limited edition double-10" vinyl release of the album. It's not too
fancy, rough brown cardboard with titles printed on the front cover and more
info on the back, and a hole to show the label on the record; gatefold cover
(but both records are in one side of the sleeve).

There is also an email address, but it certainly didn't look valid to me
(it was something like the the xx@aol.com, maybe my eyes just couldn't see
separator characters in the username, but I think they were spaces). Someone
check the CD and post the address. It may be more legible than the one on the
vinyl sleeve.

"John Stewart show" is not on MTV. It's actually on just a regular
old network (fox, I think, but you could check your local TV listing to
be sure) I'm going to try to tape it, but I'm not sure if I'll be able
to. If you don't have a TV, try a local bar or something. I'm sure
with a big enough tip, you could watch any channel you wanted to.

Agreed. Think of it as an artistic decision on Matt's part.
Besides, you're all spoiled by CDs. Yes, 34 minutes is short, but not too long
ago the average run time of an album was probably around 42 minutes. Now
everybody feels ripped off unless the album is at least 60 minutes.

I gotta agree with 'pjt.' I'd a million times rather have 34 minutes
of The The (even 'non-original' The The) than 70 minutes of most anybody
else. 70 minutes of shit isn't worth more because it's 70 minutes long-
in fact I've got lots of CDs that would have been better with a little
prudent trimming/lopping of worthless tracks. Recent examples (for my
personal taste) would include the 2CD G'N'R release a few years back,
which could have been 1 very good disc, and the new Church CD, which could
have been 1 amazing disc, instead of a long, diluted 2CD extravaganza.

And what could we expect, anyway, given the average length of Hank Williams'
songs? You know, back then, 2-3 minutes songs were quite the norm, and
it's not really fair to expect Matt to do 20+ covers just to fill up
the CD.

Initially, my unfamiliarity with Hank Williams sort of "blanded" everything
I heard. This is fairly common with any new purchase, though, and
the more I listen to this, the more I love it. Great stuff. I really
hope you don't let the length of the CD dictate your purchase.

NOTE: The opinions stated are my own, only. I do not wish to debate
the merits of G'N'R's release or The Church's release. Suffice it to say
that I like those, but I have an opinion about the average calibre of
them. My point is only that length of a CD does NOT predict quality.

Of course, I'd love a 70 minute disc from MJ, but fact is, I dont' want
him to include songs that just didn't make the cut, for the sole purpose
of filling out the disc.

Having very mightily beaten this horse to death, I apologize to all
uninterested parties. I promise I'm not usually this verbose and
defensive.

On a different note: Nobody ever responded to my post about "Flesh & Bones,"
a song The The did for "If you can't please your mind, you can't please
your soul," a Some Bizzarre compilation album. I've seen that song only
on the compilation, and only once on CD (for a salty $26!). Has anyone
else HEARD that song, and if so, have they seen it elsewhere? It's one
of the first I ever heard (1982,83,84?) and my cassette is wearing thin.

I've never seen the compilation, but "Flesh and Bones" is the B-side to the
"Heartland" 12" single (not the 7"). Available on TRUTH T2, TRUTH D2, and also
as a special promo one-sided 7" (no picture sleeve). One of the best songs!
Also performed live during the "versus the world" tour (at least in Chicago it
was).

Yes, I've heard "Flesh & Bones". Nit: the title of the album to which you
refer is IF YOU CAN'T PLEASE YOURSELF YOU CAN'T PLEASE YOUR SOUL, released in
1985. "Flesh & Bones" also appears on the b-side of the "Heartland" 12" EP
(1986, Some Bizarre/Epic/ CBS Records, Made in England, #TRUTH T2) b/w Flesh
And Bones, "Born In The New S.A.") and, I've read, on PORNOGRAPHY OF DESPAIR,
though the discography that Steve Hill published here doesn't list it as a
track -- my info is third hand.

Here's something I wrote about the "Heartland" EP for a UK-based music forum
here at Digital:

- --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
HEARTLAND (1986, Some Bizarre/Epic/CBS Records, Made in England, #TRUTH T2)
b/w
FLESH AND BONES
BORN IN THE NEW S.A.

Cover by Andy Dog, depicts a scarred cyclops, with a union jack where his eye
should be, sitting in a gloomy pub crying into his beer. Cheerful, eh?
This version of HEARTLAND is 4:55, which is the same as the LP version, I
think. HEARTLAND is Johnson's tale of the woes of the world, in particular,
the US and the UK. From the book INFECTED: "[Johnson] sees 'Heartland' as
both anti-American foreign policy and anti-British jingoism, and takes a hard
line against the political links between the two countries."

The B-side starts with FLESH AND BONES, a tale of Johnson's personal woes, e.g.:

CHORUS

"I jumped out of bed, had my first cigarette, it made my body
feel sick but helped my mind relax.
The cranes are moving on the skyline and the water is dripping
from the kitchen tap.
These times they are a'changing but I'm being left behind.
Everybody's running, trying to catch up with their lives."

This song alternates between staccato rhythms and smooth chorus, and it
sounds like it could easily have ended up on INFECTED. FLESH AND BONES
is also on the Some Bizarre Records compilation IF YOU CAN'T PLEASE
YOURSELF YOU CAN'T PLEASE YOUR SOUL. That compilation also features
Coil, Yello, Virginia Astley, Einsturzende Neubauten, Foetus (SFOTW),
Cabaret Voltaire, Test Dept., Marc Almond and Psychic T.V.

The second cut on the B-side is BORN IN THE NEW S.A., a short (2:00)
odd bit of found vocals over some synths playing a beguine rhythm.
Sounds like one vocal bit being repeated was "If you cannot buy civilization".

Good record!

Ugh. I missed the first quarter of the show, which I was listening to on

On the new CD, there is this address (in aol.com) to contact him (?!)
or I suppose a management facsimile of him. Anyways, I was just wodering if
anyone has gotten through and whether it is worthwhile.

On to Pornography of Despair (and being new here, means that it was
likely discussed before). All of the sudden Matt (or Mr. Johnson) claims that
this was released. What! In collecting the group over many years and getting
to know some fans along the way, this release was never mentioned. Yes, some
songs are on b-sides (with only the This Is The Day double 7in to be certain).
I think the Record Collector article would have mentioned it as well. So,
does anyone have a better, more certain, story on this?
Matt also mentions that there are bootlegs of this. Never seen them,
although they could be tapes being traded (never heard of them either). But
Matt (on Volume?) said that he may released Pornography because of the boots
around (which I assume he refers to vinyl, and not tapes).
If this has been discussed before, which I am sure, then please just
e-mail directly with any previous posts or info.

thanks,

fernando

PS I have a few extra theTHE items: Perfect UK 12in, Infected alternate cover
+poster LP and Dogs of Lust colour vinyl 7in. Let me know if you are looking
for these.

I believe that (from the Volume interview) he says Ivo Watts-Russell of 4AD
wanted to release "Pornography of Despair" but Matt listened to it again and
decided it wasn't good enough to release, so he said no to Ivo.
I always held the firm belief that there was NEVER any kind of release of the
album AT ALL. These days, I believe there is the possibility of SOME copies of
a TEST PRESSING. I'll never be convinced until I see some visual evidence.

I heard/read somewhere (here? I dunno... reference deleted from
memory) that it was only available on cassette, and basically the only
people that got one were Close Peronal Friends of Matt when he was first
starting out. This could be wrong, though...

I should look it up before saying otherwise, but my recollection is that
what Ivo wanted to release was the first single (which was on 4AD). I am
somewhat certain about this, especially about the reason not to do it. BUT,
PoD might have suffered the same consequences.

i`m glad that the list is alive & kicking again after a short period of

I'm surprised that no one's mentioned this yet (or maybe they have and I
just wasn't paying attention):

Matt Johnson will either be guest-hosting or the special guest on
MTV's 120 Minutes this coming Sunday (12 EST, 11 CST).
So, the the fun galore.

And, what did you guys think of that "I Saw the Light" video?
I thought Matt's attire and...daring...was just fabulous. I was pretty impressed.

Hey there,

The AOL address not only works, but you can get some serious response.
Those of us who frequented the The's music group on AOL were contacted
and given promo advance copies of _Hanky Panky_ and asked opinions on
it, not too shabby. Word has it Matt has been in the group already under
another surname, hopefully a better response then his infamous first time.

[For those who don't know he supposedly was online and offered to give
people copies of Pornography but was blasted by the local 'experts' since
Pornography didn't 'exist' and he left in disgust.]

I haven't seen the prices for HP yet in Boston but I think most retailers
KNEW it was EP length and their decision to market it as an LP shows
disregard on their part, not Sony. Most places on-line, etc. have had a
9.97 price tag on it - I THINK Newbury Comics was going $8.88. Ya gotta
comparison shop and all that.

Matt Johnson will be on MuchMusic's program the Wedge, Monday,
February 20th, around 5pm Eastern (rerun at 2am). Enjoy!

Does anyone have a Canadian release date for _Hanky Panky_? It
was supposed to be the end of January, but it seems to have been
pushed back.

Muchmusic is Canada's national music video channel, kind of like MTV,
except better. :) The Wedge is their daily kind-of-alternative type
of program. I think the channel is available in the States in some
places, but I don't know the details. (In any case, I'll be taping

I had a look for Hanky Panky in town at the weekend and the cheapest
I saw was in HMV for stlg12.99 which is almost 20 dollars in current
exchange rates.

There was eleven tracks on the album which I assume is the same as
the US version.

>From the tracks I have heard so far it doesn't sound like my cup of
tea, it's a bit too Countryish for my liking, I think i'll save my
pennies for Gunsluts when it eventually arrives.

The Album has been out for over a week now, is everyone that has
bought it pleased with it?

I shoved DUSK back in my CD player last night, I think i'll pretend
that its the new album instead.

Cheers.

Paul (Hoping to get Hanky Panky for his birthday next week ;-) )

Well, Its nice to see my old the The contacts from AOL showing up on the
list.

Kiera, Kstrick, XXXTHETHE (You know who), and of course RADAMS.

The reason you all haven't seen me on the the The board on AOL is because I
have been using more internet than AOL.

Members of the list that aren't on AOL have missed a long fun ride.

It started a few years ago. I started the first the The board on AOL. AOL
will kill boards if there aren't enough posts in them. My board was killed
before the release of _Dusk_. RADAMS got it started a few months after that,
and it has been thriving ever since.

The board was full of solid the The info, as well as practical jokes played
on members of the board by whom we believed to be Matt, changing his sign-on
every week or so.

It was all very funny. Apparantely ( so I have been told), While Matt was
touring with DM, he was getting very bored. He had a Powerbook with him, and
was logging on from city-to-city.

He first logged on as a angst ridden 17 year old who "enjoys beating people
up", and then as a girl, and then as the alter ego of Marc Geiger of American
(formerly Def American) records.

I am glad you are all here.

This ride is about to get REALLY INTERESTING!

It's good to see you over here too, Monsieur Price.

In one of the digests Behfar sent me, I saw the famous AOL/Pornography of
Despair story mentioned. Yeah, it's true -- we blew off Matt himself when he
offered to make us dubs of POD.

But -- and this is important! -- Matt had signed on in the persona of a
belligerant teenager who said he enjoyed beating people up.

So when he suddenly piped up and said he had a raw-sounding tape of POD that
he'd be willing to dub for people, a couple of us said, "Yeah, right. Sure
you do," thinking this was really an annoying kid.

Matt's response was along the lines of, "Well, you folks obviously know more
about the The than I do, so I won't bother you again." (Oh, the irony!)

He never did offer us dubs again, under any of the personas he used.

Sigh.

First I must admit to only *really* listening to the The for a little
more than a year. I became addicted to Matt's music due to my sweet
complication, and her qouting his lyrics in letters. Needless to say, I
checked out the cd's besides what the radio played and now a day doesn't
go by without some the THE...

The main reason I'm posting is to ask if anyone out there with live
the THE recordings would be willing to share? I mainly want to give any
tapes to Holly (my complication :) ) as she only has the 'official'
releases... I have some Cure, NIN, Nirvania & Ned's Atomic Dustbin shows
to trade, plus any of my other stuff. Anything would be appreciated, even
the 'bootleg' that came with Dusk, as my copy didn't include it.

My thoughts on Hanky Panky... I loved it, I'm not familiar with Hank's
work despite growing up in rural Washington State admist redneckville. I
don't own it yet, but listened to it a few dozen times on my car radio
with Holly (I gave it to her for Valentine's...) in a suburban parking
lot sharing a bottle of wine... Hey there was no where else to go. I plan
on getting it myself when I have money again, or preferably using her
copy when we *move in* together. Like it will really happen...

Well thanks for letting me say hello. HELLO! and if someone would please
share... I'd be ever so grateful. It's good to see all of the 'subscribe'
messages, now if more people will just post. I'm guilty of this last but
promise to be better in the future... Thanks Matt... Waiting for gunsluts...

I was happily watching some football (soccer to those of you in the

Suddenly the background music got louder and louder and wouldn't you
know it, Uncertain Smile was being played to accompany the football
highlights.

I think it must have been the Soul Mining 12" version as there was no
singing, unless there is a special *football highlights* cut
available somewhere.

It was nice to hear it being played on TV anyway.

I was wondering if there is anyone out there who listened to
"Rock Over London" with Paul Sexton last night. At one point,
they played a couple songs off of Hanky Panky with an interview
with Matt Johnson. In that interview, Matt said that in addition
to a Robert Johnson tribute, he was considering a "the The Plays
the Beatles". The part that really threw me was that he was going
to call the next album- which he is going to start recording this
week- Mine Sluts. What happened to Gunsluts? Just wondering.
Maybe I was delirious when I heard it the first time, but when I
played the recording again, Mine Sluts was definitely mentioned
as the name of the next album. Did anyone hear this?

A couple of days ago, I sent a post to the list, advertising a
copy of "Hanky Panky" I had for sale.

My post drew an immediate response, though not of the kind I had
imagined. I received three rather inappropriate flames attacking me for
my use of this list for commercial purposes.

I will take some of the blame; I should have specified that the copy
was an _extra_ one that I had. Though admittedly, I'm not wild about this
disc, I have no plans to sell my personal copy. But by selling the extra,
I felt I was doing a service to someone, given that my price of $9 was quite
a bit more reasonable than the $15-$16 people have been complaining about.
The guy I sold it to informed me that the local record store in his town was
selling "Hanky Panky" for $16.99

On the other hand, I totally resent the self-righteous attitude of
those who flamed me, accusing me of "polluting the list" with my "rampant
commercialism."

Behfar, the owner of this list, has made it clear that the sort
of mild advertising I was engaging in is quite welcome here. In addition,
the other music-related mailing lists I subscribe to, some of which boast
600+ subscribers, have several "commercial" posts on a daily basis, none of
which seems to draw flames of the sort I've received.

On top of this, I was careful to be somewhat apologetic about
advertising on the list, and specifically requested that anyone interested
in buying the disc contact _me_ rather than the list.

I recommend that those who are offended by this sort of "rampant
commercialism" avoid reading such posts.

Constructive comments or questions are welcome; please keep your
flames to yourself.

There is an article in the latest Q Magazine (British) about the new Hank
Williams biography. As a sidebar to this article is a short feature on Hanky
Panky. This feature mentions something about Matt possibly doing a Beatles
album (That would be amazing!), also says Robert Johnson and one other person
I can't remember are on the potential cover list. Hanky Panky is also
reviewed in this issue and doesn't do great (3 stars out of 5), the past The
The albums have always been very well recieved by Q, esp. Soul Mining.

Also, I just picked up Volume 6 this past weekend and in his monologue Matt
mentions that he might revive Lip Tripping for "the album I'm currently
working on." What album was he talking about? Wasn't Dusk already out?
Maybe he was being quite premature about Gun/Mine Sluts? This was from
April 1993 after all.
