Try this:
ftp://mirrors.aol.com/pub/guitar/
But try nevada again. It's hard to contact it from time to time, but
it still works!

Hi everyone,
Just wanted to let you know that if you haven't heard 'Darkness Falls' by The The yet (which is on the 'Judge Dredd' soundtrack), you can hear around 25-30 seconds from it on the following location (RealAudio or AU format):
http://www.worldwidemusic.com/cgi-bin/previewpg?07464672202+1
Just found it yesterday while surfing around .... enjoy.

I've tried contacting Steve through email twice now, with no response...
so I'm interested in this answer as well.

Well, as far as *I* know I am, but it seems the server is not allowing
access to my directory. The owner probably wants me to pay my bill or
something. :)

A lot of times I file non-urgent email away for later response, and often it
takes a long time to get to it. There's just not enough time in the day
to read *and* answer 200-300 messages a day. Yes, I will be changing your
address on the page. I will also add a link to your page.
Take care,

found it at a used record store / pawn shop for $1.99! Sorry, just had

Does anybody know how many of these were made?

But, is it true that Johnny Marr is playing with a group called 'Techo', or

And if it's true... what the hell is he doing there when he could be hanging

I just bought a promo CD (Mind Bomb era) of an interview with Matt Johnson
in which he talks about a bunch of things including the The as a
full-fledged band, Johnny Marr, Sinead O'Connor and
"Kingdom of Rain", etc... it also has live versions of "Infected",
"Beat(en) Generation", "Heartland" and "Beyond Love" and album versions
of "Kingdom of Rain" and "This is the Day"... the cover of the CD has the
facial sketches of the entire band and methinks it is the same cover as
that of the "Beat(en) Generation" 12" except for the word "alive"
scrawled over top... in the corner of the CD are the words "Demonstration
- - Not For Sale" (yeah, but it was only $10 Canadian!)... the interviews are
the same as the interviews that were on the rarities tape that JaY made
last year... my question is how rare is this thing?... I love the CD but
just for curiosity, how many fellow listers have this CD?...

I've got 2 copies on 12" vinyl (if anybody wants to trade), and my
brother just came across another copy, so the vinyl seems to be
relatively available. I didn't know if this existed on CD or not, and
I don't know any production numbers on either one...
Guess I wasn't really much help. :-)

Well, he plays with Electronic and does a fine Job of it. Ican do without
Bernard Sumners repetitve melody ideas, but the grooves are perfectly sick
and putrid. New album due has a dude from Kraftwerk, should be fun, twisted,
and trippy.

Subject: the The web page
Hi there,
Just wanted to write and say 'great page!'
It's nice to see someone other than the record company putting some stuff
together on the web for one of the greatest, and most under-rated bands of
our time.
I've been a the The fan now for 10 years, it's great to see Matt's appeal
has spread across the Atlantic at last. What do you think of his earlier
stuff? Some could be construed to be anti-American, but even at the time
Matt denied that allegation.
Anyway, I was looking over the infected mailing list, and I've got a few
answers to some of last month's postings - sorry, but I'm not sure how to
post to it, as I've only just subscribed (I only just found your page)
Maybe these might be of some interest to some of the subscibers out there;
Hirschdave@aol.com wrote that it would be great to hear Matt collaborate with
Foetus, aka Jim Thirwell. Well, you may know that recently Jim has done some
remixing for Matt (Dogs of Lust remixes) but that's not the first time they
have worked together. Jim played with Matt when The The played a three-night
stint at the Marquee in London in 1985 (I think). Matt experimented with a
'supergroup' formula, enlisting the help of Jim Thirwell, Zeke Manyika, Marc
Almond and Thomas Leer amongst others.
Cold Spell Ahead - as everyone probably knows, 'Uncertain Smile' was a
re-working of Cold Spell Ahead, one of Matt's earliest releases. It was
recorded while The The still consisted of more than just Matt and selected
collaborators, with original The The member Keith Laws, who played keyboards
(Matt played guitar mostly).
Flesh and Bones - this is the B-side to the UK release of 'Heartland'. I'm
not sure if it was written earlier.
Perfect - this was a pre-Soul Mining single release, followed by 'This is the
Day'. Perfect made it onto the CD and cassette versions of Soul Mining in the
UK. The cassette version also contained another 5 extra tracks which could
well have been rescued from Pornography of Despair, but we may never know. Two
of the extra tracks were on the 12 inch single of Perfect.
The limited edition Beat(en) Generation single - yes, the remixes are OK but
not too different from the original. It's collectible though (at least it is
in the UK). Even more collectible is the 12 inch boxed set of the same single
including postcards, stencil and badge. This was sold for as little as 1.99,
but within 2 weeks was fetching as much as 20 pounds with collectors.
Best the The video - a personal opinion, but it has to be Infected. Turn all
the lights out and the volume up and sit back...it's awesome. The The vs the
World is pretty cool too though.
The lyrics to 'Violence of Truth' - don't worry, there's no way Matt is a
racist! One of Matt's long-time collaborators was Zeke Manyika, who is a
black guy from Zimbabwe (I think). Matt also worked on Zeke's anti-apartheid
'Bible Belt' single, providing the samples. Zeke, as you may know, is the
ex-drummer of Orange Juice (Edwyn Collins being the ex-singer). Zeke has also
released some excellent solo work - check out the track 'This Lamp' on his
album 'Call and Response'. The artwork for 'Call and Response' was provided
by one Andy Dog...
My interpretation of the lyrics being discussed is that the word 'nigger' is
not to be taken literally, and it's meant to make you feel uncomfortable. By
'nigger' I believe Matt means every third-world country fighting just to feed
its' people while the rest of the world watches it on TV sitting in their
armchair. I think it's a rage against the injustices of the world we live in,
definitely not intended to be an insulting poke at blacks.
Am I the only person who finds it incredible that Matt Johnson wrote and
recorded Burning Blue Soul, playing all the instruments too, as a teenager?
I can't believe how deep some of those songs are, he wrote 'Another Boy
Drowning' when he was 17 apparently. Actually, he didn't play ALL the
instruments - Gilbert and Lewis (of 'Wire') played on one track. I think
Matt is also credited as one of the early pioneers of drum sampling and
looping - does this mean he invented modern dance music? (joke!)
Oh yeah, on the most recent tour, in the UK the band were joined by The
Auteurs, a reasonably recent UK band. Suffice to say things didn't go too
smoothly between Matt and the lead singer of The Auteurs, to the extent
of Matt referring to them as 'The Old-turds' to the press when asked about
it...I smiled.
All for now...
Cheers,
Blair

The album will be realeased in January '97.
The title may or may not be 'Gun Sluts'.
The band invested heavily in lots of new technology last year and had major,
MAJOR teething problems and lost many, many months of valuable time.
A lot of the material is keepable and useable but they decided to change
direction and are back in the studio in New York working on new material.
The band thank everyone for continued support and look forward to seeing
y'all on the road somewhere out in the vast darkness in '97.
