I had asked if there would be any more singles from _Hanky Panky_ and I
got this reply that probably should be sent to the whole list:
THETHEXXX@aol.com wrote:

So, it appears that Gun Sluts won't be out this year after all :(
That's o.k., Matt is always worth the wait.
I wonder why "I Saw the Light" wasn't released as a US single. They printed
up a bunch of US promos, why not just release it officially too?

Someone posted on the Smiths list some parts of an interview with Johnny
Marr from the May issue of Total Guitar magazine. Unfortunately, the
poster only included Smiths parts of the interview and edited out a whole
section in which Johnny talks about the The. However, it was mentioned
somewhere in passing that Johnny would be on the Robert Johnson album,
whenever that's recorded. Johnny also mentioned that if he could play
with any one guitarist, it would be Matt Johnson. So, at least we know
that the two are on good terms. I still hope that they will continue to
work together.
Now I'll have to pick up the magazine. Or perhaps just hang around the
magazine rack for a while and read it there :)

I remember a while ago hearing an interview with Matt Johnson that seemed
to imply that the two were still friends, but that MJ resented Marr's
pulling out of the tour, or something like that, and that if Marr wanted to
work with him, fine, but that he was not going to pursue Marr.
Anyone else remember this?

I thought his real name was Jim Thirlwell.....Anyways a magazine I was recently
reading - right now I can't remember which one.....SPIN or Pulse! maybe....
had a whole section on Industrial and how it has evolved over the years,
and they had a box about Jim Thirlwell and his influence and the new album.
Now for a stupid question......a few years ago some friends of mine who were
into industrial (the real serious stuff like White Noise and Nurse With Wound,
not Ministry and NIN) had a tape called "Scraping Foetus of the Wheel" (sorry
if I grossed y'all out). Any relation to Thirlwell's Foetus?

That's him, all right. Only now does he go by the single name "Foetus"... back
in the 80s he changed the name with every release (Foetus Interruptus, You've Got
Foetus On Your Breath, and so on).

in response to scraping foetus off the wheel, most definitely that's JG
Thirlwell. I have a double LP (also available on single CD 70 odd minutes...)
called FOETUS INC. - SINK. it's a waxtrax issue of a bunch of old foetus
incarnations (as he calls his different releases and bands). i'm almost
positive it's still being issued or in back stock. check your local reocrds
store or write to waxtrax for a not-so-expensive catalog.

does anyone have what they feel is a pretty complete discography of
THe the releases? I've got a half dozen old 12"'s and import stuff on
CD that I'm trying to fit into the bare bones discography listed in
the last couple the the domestic album releases.
if anyone has a good list, please send me a copy directly. I promise
I'll post a complete and compiled discography list ASAP. Then we can
compare and update each others' info. I'd love to get copies of some
old stuff and would love even more to trade copies of my singles/
b-sides/ etc. with others.
>>could we get some kinda file started to document all the things we
have. i mean a really specific list that individuals could add to.<<
I sent this idea to behfar. what are your suggestions, group? I
envision a discography with info related to the releases (ie.
description of cover art, record company responsible for the release,
catalog numbers and copyright dates, info found on 12" labels and
engraved with the catalogue numbers on the actual vinyl itself (you
smiths fans know what i mean)). I keep reading all these track names
that I don't have and would love to find, whether by copy trade or at
ratty used records stores I find all over my travels.
right now I'm working on a list of my own stuff to put on the net by
5/10. If you have a good discography out there, please send me a
copy.

hey various list members...
I know this isn't the usual, but being against all forms of corporate facism and
absurd business tactics (like overpriced cd's for sale), I thought I'd pass
along this guy's message.
ps: Is anyone on the David Byrne/Talking Heads list? I think they'd like this
true story...

I got this from a mailing list I am on and thought it deserved to be passed
along. Enjoy!
_________________________________________________________
My daughter & I had just finished a salad at Neiman-Marcus Cafe in Dallas
and decided to have a small dessert. Because our family are such cookie
lovers, we decided to try the "Neiman-Marcus Cookie". It was so
excellent that I asked if they would give me the recipe. With a cute
smile, she said, "Yes." I asked how much, and she responded, "Two
fifty." I said with approval, just add it to my tab. Thirty days later,
I received my VISA statement from Neiman-Marcus and it was $285.00. I
looked again and I remembered I had only spent $9.95 for two salads and
about $20.00 for a scarf. As I glanced at the bottom of the statement,
it said, "Cookie-Recipe - $250.00." Boy, was I upset!! I called
Neiman's Accounting Dept. and told them the waitress said it was "two
fifty," and I did not realize she meant $250.00 for a cookie recipe.
I asked them to take back the recipe and reduce my bill and they said
they were sorry, but because all the recipes were this expensive so not
just everyone could duplicate any of our bakery recipes...the bill would
stand. I waited, thinking of how I could get even or even try and get
any of my money back. I just said, "Okay, you folks got my $250.00 and
now I'm going to have $250.00 worth of fun." I told her that I was going
to see to it that every cookie lover will have $250.00 cookie recipe from
Neiman-Marcus for nothing. She replied, "I wish you wouldn't do this."
I said, "I'm sorry but this is the only way I feel I could get even," and
I will. So, here it is, and please pass it to someone else or run a few
copies....I paid for it; now you can have it for free. (Recipe may be
halved.):
2 cups butter 4 cups flour 2 tsp. soda
2 cups sugar 5 cups blended oatmeal** 24 oz. chocolate chips
2 cups brown sugar 1 tsp. salt 4 eggs
1 - 8 oz. Hershey Bar (grated) 2 tsp. baking powder
3 cups chopped nuts 2 tsp. vanilla (your choice)
Cream the butter and both sugars. Add eggs and vanilla; mix together
with flour, oatmeal, salt, baking powder, and soda. Add chocolate
chips, Hershey Bar and nuts. Roll into balls and place two inches apart
on a cookie sheet. Bake for 10 minutes at 375 degrees. Makes 112
cookies.
**measure oatmeal and blend in a blender to a fine powder
Have fun!!! This is not a joke-----this is a true story....................
That's it. Please, pass it along to everyone you know, single people,
mailing lists, etc..... 100

the name sounds the The-ish alright..!
what's the name of the film?
btw, i recently picked up the latest foetus "gash", and it
does sort of sound like the The on acid (i think someone said
that a while ago).. actually, it's more like a cross between infected
and the downward spiral.. anyone else gave that a listen?
i think it's a bit hard to listen to for long periods of time, but
cool dark music nonetheless..
behfar
ps: (for gash owners: what do you think of track 11? the name escapes me
right now.. )

TheThe will have a new track in the Judge Dredd film/soundtrack called
'Darkness Falls'. The band are currently in Spain & Italy recording 'Gun
Sluts' which is roughly scheduled for a spring 96 release (although there may
be a double sided single/e.p
'Head Hog'/'Rat Bag' in the fall) News so far is that the album is going
very, very well. Could well be the best TheThe album in 10 years. (less
keyboards & more guitars apparently). Will keep the folder updated with any
more news.
Have a wuuuunderful summer.

To each his own, I guess. Less guitars would be ok with me.
