Assignments should be printed or written out neatly on standard sized paper
(8.5 x 11 inch or A4). Each page should be numbered, and you should show all
your work. Please do not write in red ink. Homework may not be
submitted electronically.
Grades will be based on weekly homework assignments and on two in-class examinations.
The course grade will be determined using the following weights:
Read the University policy on Academic Honesty and Plagiarism. This policy prohibits academic misconduct. You should understand that representing someone else's ideas as your own is academic misconduct. Copying and submitting solutions posted on the internet is academic misconduct. Copying and submitting another student's solution or a solution from a solution set distributed for another course is academic misconduct. Cases of academic misconduct will be referred to the Dean of Students of the Physical Sciences Division.
In this course, you are allowed and encouraged to discuss course material and homework assignments with each other, but you must work out and write up the solutions to the homework assignments individually. Exchanging solutions to homework problems is strictly prohibited. Solutions to homework problems must reflect your understanding of the ideas and must be your own work. DO NOT COPY a solution: from a written source, from the internet, or from another person. If you find a solution in a written source or on the internet, DO NOT COPY IT. Understand it and reconstruct it on your own, and reference the source. Copied solutions obtained from a written source or from the internet will receive zero credit.
