Summarizing the Internet

Download: internetgraph.zip, decompress it, and go to the folder created.

If you're running on Windows, click on internet.bat or internet_geowall.bat for a GeoWall. If you're running on Linux, type

 chmod +x internet.csh
 ./internet.csh

See the Cosmus site for navigation instructions.

Ivona Bezakova and Rahul Santhanam had some data of autonomous nodes on the internet, and wanted to see what it looked like. They gave me internet1.dat, which they had compiled from somewhere. It has just two columns, each line is of the form "i j" if node i is adjacent to node j.

These instructions ("perl makencol.pl internet1.dat blah", LGL submission, "perl lgl2speck.pl noname2 noname1 blah.label mygraph") were used to apply LGL (Adai et al, 2004) to lay the graph out in three dimensions and then visualize it in Partiview. A snapshot of the resulting graph is below. Each node represents an autonomous system e.g. the uchicago.edu collection of ip addresses is one node.
