- The purpose of this page is to describe
the software requirements for the
SciVis class (besides svn), and to collect updated information about getting the software
working on different computers.
- Unlike in past offerings of SciVis, we will be using the
Computer Science Instructional Laboratory (CSIL), specifically its Mac computers,
as the reference platform on which work is to be completed and graded.
We will not be using anything specific to the Mac operating system,
so you may be able to get everything compiling and running on a different
computer (Mac or Linux), but for consistency we need to pick a reference
platform that all students have guaranteed access to. Because later
projects will be benefitting from OpenGL-based display of geometry,
we pick the CSIL Macs over the CSIL Linux machines (which do not have
good graphics cards).
