They had some insanely good medical records program that apparently no one (but the VA?) uses. Instead it's been all contracted out to private corps and generally sucks. Note the VA logo on Danielle's labcoat. The VA is the closest thing to universal health care the country has and is actually really pretty good (despite the recent national press about Iraq war vets). And that's good without qualifier, not good "for universal care".
