Continuing tradition: mathematics REU

Since 2001, I have been a contributor each summer to the "Research Experience for Undergraduates" program run by the University of Chicago Department of Mathematics (until 2011 under VIGRE grants from the NSF), directed by Peter May. For many years I gave an 8-week series on various topics in Discrete Mathematics, and every year I gave a 4-week intensive introductory series in the "Apprentice program" covering Linear Algebra and its applications to graph theory, combinatorics, probability theory, and algorithms, as well as elementary Number Theory. Both types of courses have been accompanied by a potpourri of fun problems. Course content is documented in great detail on the web pages below.

In addition to the Math REU series, in summer 2014 an REU was offered by the Chicago Center for the Theory of Computing and allied areas (also listed below).
