computer

a person or thing that computes; specif., an electronic machine that performs rapid, often complex calculations or compiles, correlates and selects data.

compute

to determine, as an amount, by reckoning; calculate.

These dictionary definitions are not very useful for our purposes. They don't seem to be getting at the heart of the matter at all.
