Delius, Frederick (1862-1934)

Delius was a British composer of German origin who chose to live in France for most of his life (from 1888 onwards till the end of his life). He was a vehement atheist fascinated by Friedrich Nietzsche's Also Sprach Zarathustra parts of which he set to music in his Mass of Life. His Requiem is also inspired by Nietzsche's writing.

Requiem (1913-1916)

Text	The text was prepared by Delius and his friend Heinrich Simon based on Nietzsche's Also Sprach Zarathustra and Ecclesiastes.
Notes	The Requiem is dedicated to those who died in World War I. Following Beecham it has always been considered one of Delius's lesser works. As a matter of fact Hickox's recent recording seems to be the first.
