Homework
- Let L be the lower triangular matrix that is 1 on the diagonal, -1 on the
subdiagonal, and zero elsewhere. Implement the combined block-diagonal plus
parallel-prefix algorithm descirbed in the
new slides for 22-24 October.
Solve LU=F where F is the vector of all 1's. Due 12 November.
- Compare explicit and implicit Euler for solving the
van der Pol oscillator
due 19 Nov
- Do the exercise on page 27 just after equation (5) in the
new slides
for the second day.
Due Tuesday 15 October
- Do the exercises on pages 29 and 33 of the
slides. Due Tuesday 8 October.
Note that there was an error in the Lax-Wndroff formula in the original
version of the slides.
Reading for the first week:
TR-2013-01, Tsunami Simulation
Background Texts:
The course will investigate the convergence properties of
various methods for solving partial differential
equations. The objective will be to investigate open problems.
Topics will be chosen to match the interests of the students.
