Art

Since I've got a LOT to do on this site, I'm just going to have to include links to my high school computer art portfolios and brief descriptions of some artwork I've done since then in this section.

Earlier work

Colorizations

These were my first attempts at colorization. The original line-art was sketched by my incredibly talented friend Masahiko Komino for a role-playing game of ours which is still under development. Unfortunately, I didn't have a graphic tablet, so this was all done using a mouse.

Layouts

These are layouts I created as the interface framework for use in multimedia presentations or websites.

  • Bebop
This is the navigational framework I made for an interactive multimedia project about the BeBop jazz movement. It was created in 3D Studio MAX. This was also my first rendering which featured my first homemade wood texture (all the textures in this one were made from scratch). The goal here was to add to the BeBop atmosphere of the project by providing an interface that was similar to an old 40's-style radio.
  • Thespis
This was the original navigational framework George Faerber and I had come up with for the Thespis homepage. George designed the statue (on the right hand side of the page) and the Thespis logo, and I did the rest. The goal was to try to make the interface one that combined the classical (referring to thespis, drama, narrative) with the technological.
  • KJAS
This was a montage, composed of three separate anime images. that I made for a multimedia compilation CD. It is the background for the CD's autorun program, so every time the CD is inserted, this image pops up with 3 buttons under the text "April 1998". where the user can browse the CD, view the readme, or exit.
Multimedia

Foppish Egotism II

This was my first attempt to synchronize music to video. All of the animations in this movie were done by myself and can be recognized as work contained in my previous portfolios. The music was taken from the song "A Casual Affair" by Tonic; the entire movie was put together using Adobe Premiere during my freshman year at Kenyon.

Mathematical Art

My Goblet

For a calculus class in the fall of 1998, I also won first prize in a goblet-creating competition. The goblet is created from a piecewise-defined function that is rotated about the X axis to form a solid of revolution. I first sketched the original curve on graph paper and then tried to replicate it in a piecewise defined function by picking trigonometric and polynomial functions I thought best approximated the behavior of the curve at key points. The piecewise-defined function for the Goblet was created in Maple V Release 5; the Goblet itself was also rendered in Maple V.
