Hao (Michael) Tong
The University of Chicago

Hao Tong is a newly graduated Ph.D. in August 2020. He received his Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of Chicago under the guidance of Prof. Robert Grossman, Prof. Haryadi Gunawi and Dr. Zhenyu Zhang. His research in Ph.D. focused on new techniques in improving performance and reliability of distributed system and storage system. His work leverages modifications in operating system kernel to provide new ideas on computing and storage schemes. Notable projects and publications include Tiny Tail Flash which aims to eliminate garbage collection tail latencies in NAND SSDs, MittOS which supports millisecond tail tolerance with fast rejecting SLO-aware OS interface, FEMU which is a scalable and extensible flash emulator, performance analysis on a bioinformatics pipeline platform, and a patent that elaborate caching algorithms for multi-layer caches.
