20-24 June 2016, Chicago
This course provides essential training for modeling using partial differential equations via the finite element method. Using tools from the FEniCS Project, students learn to perform extremely complex technical simulations. This class requires minimal background beyond advanced calculus. The basic concepts of modeling using partial differential equations are described via computational examples. We indicate potential pitfalls of such models and how to identify them. Students learn standard models in engineering design and scientific research as well as advanced modeling techniques.
